CTR visit to Research Park, India Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM)

Center for Telecommunication Research (CTR) group members, Prof Dush Jayakody (principal investigator) and Dr. Ambrish Kumar (Post-doc researcher) visited Research Park of Indian Institute of Technology Madurai (IITM) on 6th May 2022. Main purpose of visit is to identify potential research collaborations with IITM and to oversee their active research environment, which will help to further strengthen research capacity of the CTR.

IIT Madras Research Park, India’s first university-based research park is a nonprofit company promoted by IIT Madras and conceived by Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala in the spirit of breaking traditional barriers. They aspire to build a knowledge and innovation ecosystem where industry leaders and scholars can collaborate with state-of-art technology to integrate and apply advancements in knowledge to real-time products or services. By fostering partnerships and assisting new ventures, they are determined to transform and exceed the global standards of the research and development industry. IIT Madras Research Park paves a new arena for the research community by:

It has over 200 startups, 200+ labs and facilities and over 1300 patents filed.

During the visit, Prof. Dush Jayakody and Dr. Ambrish Kumar met with the distinguish academic Prof. Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Fellow IEEE, President of Research Part IITM. Prof. Ashok highlighted and explained the importance of Sri Lanka to drive innovation based economic growth to overcome the current financial crisis. Further, our team has visited 5G testbed of the Research Park and engaged in technical discussion on the improvement on their 5G testbed facility. The technical information discussed within the meeting will be directly helpful to speed up the process of implementing our own 5G testbed facility at SLTC. We hope that in future CTR will have a fruitful research collaboration with the researchers and industries linked with the Research Park of IITM to be the pioneers in next generation of communications research in the region.
